Friday Five: Moving

(YouTube video: "Mendocino," Kate and Anna McGarrigle with Karen Matheson)

We are right in the middle of a move--only twenty minutes away, but we're still a mix of busy, excited, nervous and surprisingly full of grief about what we're leaving, for me at least. So this week's Friday Five asks about your experience of the marvels and madness of moving...

1. How many times have you moved? When was the last time?

2. What do you love and hate about moving?

3. Do you do it yourself or hire movers?

4. Advice for surviving and thriving during a move?

5. Are you in the middle of any inner moves, if not outer ones?

Bonus: Share a piece of music/poetry/film/book that expresses something about what moving means to you.

As always, let us know in comments if you play. Post a direct link to your blog entry in your comment using the following formulation: what you want the link to say goes here For a complete how-to, click here.

  1. Wow...an early five. Thanks for this grace note; I have a busier than usual morning and will not have my usual several hours in my Friday office (the local coffee shop). I'll be back in a few!

  18. I played for the first time in LONG time. Just moved in late December so I guess you could say I'm still a little "raw" from that!

  22. Being on the west coast always makes me late - even when I'm at work early. Oh well! Moving on...

  23. Thanks, everyone, for the kind words and prayers--I am feeling a bit better today. Really enjoying people's play so far, too.

In the spirit of self-care during moving chaos: I normally visit and comment at everyone's place when I am the FF hostess, but it just may not be peacefully possible today. So I will try to visit everywhere, but may not have time to leave comments. Thanks for understanding...

  25. I may have moved more than any of you and I may never move again with any luck. I'm interested to see what others say although my plan was to spend less time at the computer today - my activities detailed in yesterday's post have been giving my body some grief.

  26. Whew. This ended up being quite the rich Friday 5. Thank you, Mother Laura, and best of luck with your move. I played here.

  29. I've done my bit
How could I resist, given the current preponderance of unpacked boxes in my life? Thanks Laura...I was glad to reflect on this.

  30. I can't remember the last time I played a Friday Five but here it is

  31. Hey, hey! Just got a great idea and thought I'd run it past you brilliant folks...

Bobby McFerrin's 23rd Psalm (hear it here). I'd like to play that and then invite comments--on shepherds, sheep, inclusive language (which the congregation is very used to), comfort...all kinds of stuff. Remember, this is the "house church" Sunday, so discussion is expected (dare I say anticipated?).

    Whaddya think?

  32. I played late here but at least, there's fun music :).

  33. I played Friday, but forgot to post here!
