Sunday Afternoon Music Video - How Firm a Foundation

I found this simply played tune of the hymn How Firm a Foundation using the tune Foundation. Its simplicity seems to fit for me today. How many of you got to hear a hymn on a musical instrument other than keyboard today?

And what did you sing during worship today?

  1. That's my favorite hymn, Cathy!
    This week we sang:
All People That on Earth Do Dwell
    Precious Lord, Take My Hand
    Great is Your Faithfulness

It would have been a good week for His Eye is on the Sparrow, but we used it on Memorial Day weekend, so I thought I ought to spread it out further. Also, i was focused on the Genesis text, and the latter two hymns worked particularly well.

  2. I love hymns played on the dulcimer!
    Thanks, Cathy!

We sang All Creatures of our God and King,We Thank you, Lord, for Your are Good, and There's a Widemenss in God's Mercy and had a jazz cantata, complete with string bazz, flutes and a percussionist!
    Fun!

  3. Nothing but the organ. We sang "God of Our Life, Through All the Circling Years" (which I associate with the first service of the New Year); Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah (one of my favorite tunes, Cwm Rhondda); and "Thou God of All, Whose Spirit Moves," the tune being "Old 22nd" from the Anglo-Genevan Psalter. I haven't been able to find which versified psalm was originally sung to this tune; the oldest of the three hymns listed for it in the Cyberhymnal was written in 1835. Yes, UCC folks, you're right - we sang all the hymns from the Pilgrim Hymnal today (we have both it and the NCH but quite often weeks go by without using the PH.) Our sermon was about Hagar.

  4. Songbird, we sang All People that on Earth Do Dwell last week!

Auntie Knickers Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah - one of my favorites also!

Jiff, a jazz cantata - now that sounds interesting!

  5. Cathy, how lovely this is! thanks!

We didn't have organ as usual; our fabulous organist was away so our fabulous music director accompanied on piano...and I was delighted at the sweet and delicate sound it made.

Especially as we sang "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing."

  6. We sang "O My Soul Bless Your Creator", "There's a wideness in God's mercy", "God's Eye is on the sparrow" and "sent forth by God's blessing" to the clavinova ...

If I had more disposable income than I do, I would purchase both a mountain dulcimer and a hammered dulcimer and learn to play them

  7. We listened to U2 '40' as part of the Zimbabwe vigil "how long must we sing this song"

  8. it's in my top ten, too!
we sang that old Swedish favorite: children of the heavenly father.
Also: Lord speak to us that we may speak
    and a Brazilian one called
    Cantad al Senor
    ended with
Rise up O Saints of God

  9. I am blessed to have a parishioner who makes dulcimers. He declared last November "give your priest a dulcimer" month. The video has inspired me to try to play it rather than just look upon it fondly.
We sang All Creatures last week, too. Yesterday was Christ for the World We Sing, Take Up Your Cross, Alleluia, Alleluia, Give Thanks to the Risen Lord and Praise to the Living God.
