Sunday Afternoon Music Video -- Psalm 13

Hello blogging friends. I'm filling in today. Peace be with you!

Here are the opening words of Psalm 13.

"How long, O Lord? Will you forget me for ever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I bear pain in my soul,

and have sorrow in my heart all day long?"

Perhaps you read these sad words in worship this morning. I did, and I found them to be rather too close to how I am feeling. I found so many moving videos for today that I just couldn't choose just one. This first one is six minutes long, but the visuals are striking.

This next one is from Shane and Shane, a duo I only began listening to recently but who are rapidly becoming favorites. The video is not the best, but if you like simple music and vocal harmonies, you will likely enjoy these two.

If you'd like, tell us what you sang in church today. Or perhaps share with us what music is touching your heart lately.

  1. For some reason, when I tried to view the videos, I got the message that they were no longer available. Hmmmmmmmmm.

  2. That's odd. It worked for me. Anyone else have this problem? I can try to repost.

  3. They are working fine here. Maybe it was temporary?
This morning we sang "Immortal, Invisible," "Standing in the Need of Prayer" and "God Be With You Till We meet Again."
The psalm has been on my mind all week, more for me than in relation to the church, although it certainly speaks to a declining congregation in an unlikely location for re-growth. Thanks for these videos, SO.

  4. No, I can hear them. wow.

we sang "Lord Whose Love in Humble Service." today, which is one of my favorites.

  5. We sang "For the Beauty of the Earth" today -- I'm not sure why. We also sang it yesterday at a memorial service, where it was appropriate. And, today we sang "Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life," as well. We had the Jeremiah reading, not the Akedah, and the Matthew with the cup of cold water -- so that's why the latter hymn, as it references "the cup of water given for you."

  6. We sang Love Divine, All Loves Excelling; Be Thou My Vision; Lord, Speak to Me; and Draw Me Nearer...and we should be singing Happy Birthday because tomorrow, I turn.....40!!!!!!!!

  7. Both videos worked for me, and I enjoyed them very much. And the Shane and Shane one...their comments at the end demonstrate that they are Texas Aggies playing for a group of same. As another, I found that interesting. :) Thanks for sharing them, SO!

We sang "Be Thou My Vision," too, and "The Church's One Foundation" and "I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light." The psalm was done in Anglican chant, which caused it to feel less mopey...not sure how that works. :)

  8. Interesting mix of hymns, y'all, some of which I love (Be Thou My Vision is a favorite, as is "The Church's One Foundation")--and Songbird, I have not sung "God Be With You" since my childhood Southern Baptist days, and now I've been humming all day long. Diane, your favorite is one I haave not heard of--so much music--so little time!

Everyone, join me in a rousing chorus of HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Chilly Fingers...all together, two, three, four..."Happy Birthday to You....."

  9. It worked fine for me tonight. Both great videos, but I found the first one especially moving.
