We had a wonderful time of traditional Methodist Worship this morning, opening with Praise my Soul the King of heaven and ending with Sing we the King who is coming to reign.
That got me thinking about how the praises of God are lifted up all around the world in different ways; and I'd like to be a bit greedy this week and offer you two videos reflecting different styles of praise first music from Zambian Acapella
followed by music from an east meets west worship group Aradhna:

I'll see if I can look those up Aradhna are a western based group who whilst ministering in India found that indigenous music styles were more effective in releasing true worship than imported western styles.

ReplyDeleteWe had Morning Prayer this morning since our priest was on vacation and no supply priest. Organist also on vacation so I tickled the ivories.

ReplyDeleteWe began the service with "Alleluia, Sing to Jesus" - Hyfrydol. IS there a better hymn for organ and descant...was thinking of angels climbing up and down Jacob's Ladder and boy, could I see them during this hymn!
Interesting to listen to as we relax this evening! We had no musicians at any of the three churches I serve, so today was a sad day musically. Attendance was thin, so we struggled our way through with the digital hymnal. Sigh.

ReplyDeleteWhat Abi said--wanted to know the words. Very enjoyable however! We were having service outside today, by a lake, so that we could also baptize some people. So we sang The River is Here, We Cry Holy and Firm Foundation. When we are about to do the baptisms we also sing I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a group ministering using Indian music. And isn't that important that we use music indigenous to where we are.
