A Snowy Wednesday Festival

Greetings once again from the Great Sinkholes Region! It's that time of year when the cold, cold air from Sue's (Inner Dorothy) country hits the 'warm' waters of the Great Sinkholes. The result? Lake Effect Snow!! Some places very near us have gotten two feet of heavy, wet snow this week!

If you live here for any length of time, you learn to put snow tires on your vehicle in late October, get your tocques, mufflers, hats, scarves, boots, mukluks, mitthens, gloves, et al ready to go in late September, pull up your big girl or boy snow pants and get on with it!

And for your own sake and the sake of your fellow human beings - go slow until you get used to driving in the slippery stuff again! Our Small Town Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service can only answer so many calls!

And speaking of getting on with it ... here's this week's Wednesday Festival offerings:

The Pastor of Prairie Hill is pondering the essentials of ministry.

Over at See Through Faith, Lorna is asking us to join her Advent conspiracy. BTW - "Haloo, hei, moro, moi, terve, Lorna!" (I hope I didn't say anything innapropriate!)

Deb ponders: What IF the church was marketed like Starbucks? Hmmmmm. Good question!

Welcome back JayHawk to the blogging world! We'll hold you up prayer!

And Sally (from across the Big Pond) shares a poem and her own "Advent terrors". We're with you!

And I'm having deja vu all over again.

Well, that about wraps it up for this week! Y'all keep warm and safe! What's that, Weather Forecaster? 1" to 3"? WE laugh at 1" to 3"! (Insert maniacal laughter here!)

  1. moi Net (and no nothing inappropriate!) mitä kuuluu? (grin)

we had a sprinkling of snow last night - and really really slippery today. Luckily the winter tyres are already on - but I was nervous when TS borrowed the car this evening. He's home now :)

  2. We're actually in the clear for a few days here in the Dakotas, much to our surprise. The 12-foot drift in front of one of my churches has melted down to a 4-footer.

I ponder false and true advertising in our churches at my site, if anyone is curious...

  6. Those of you in lake effect country could send me some pictures for old times' sake. I haven't seen snow since leaving western NY in 1987. They tried to claim it snowed in New Orleans once but it was ice, pure and simple. And East Tennessee doesn't really get more than 1/2-2" at any given time, perhaps all year. I miss snow.

  7. At noon, Weather Forecaster said that some areas should expect one to three feet over the next two days.

D2, three of her co-workers and I have tickets for the first showing (midnight) of Twilight in Small City named for the Same Lake. We've got our T-shirts, pins and posters ... Let it snow!!!!!

The snow is REALLY beautiful and awesome. After living up here most of my life, I am still amazed at its sheer beauty!

And as long as you leave enough time for traveling, it is navigable.

  8. ...I think actually the video about coffee and religion and marketing asks what you would think about *coffee* if it were marketed (and promoted by individuals as well) in the way that Christianity (Christ? or Christianity?) is. Rather than the other way around. Kinda points out the ridiculousness in many churches' attempts to be relevant.

I like how the video opens with the copy-cat bumperstickers and pithy sayings that the "coffee people" have ripped off from other people--changing only a word here and there. I seem to recognize that tactic from somewhere...
