Wednesday Festival: Feast of the Epiphany

Image: Epiphany Times Three by Kathrin Burleson (ECVA.org)

How is your New Year/Epiphany Season beginning? Today is celebrated as the Day of Epiphany! There were a number of folks at the Saturday Preacher Party discussing ways to observe Epiphany through the Orthodox tradition of the church blessing chalk and that chalk being used to mark home doors. For some ideas, visit LutheranChik and this site, suggested by the Vicar of Hogsmeade. A way to bring church to your home. Not having any offically blessed chalk, your editor plans, nevertheless, to mark her lintels today!

Christine is giving away four fabulous prizes at the Abbey this week. The prizes are connected to considering and sharing a "word" for your year ahead. She says, "This practice is connected to lectio divina, where we approach the sacred texts with the same request – “give me a word” we ask – something to nourish me, challenge me, a word I can wrestle with and grow into."

Christine is also teaching a Lenten E-Course on Benedictine Spiritual Practices (with a free small group guide for pilgrims who want to gather weekly for this Lenten journey together). Go here to learn more and to sign up.

How is your year starting out? To what do you look forward with joy, trepidation, or wonder? I know of life and job changes great and small within our membership; babies on the way; ordinations and postings in the near future. Sally's grand Friday Five from last week gave a wonderful jumping-off place for looking at our commitment and how that might take shape this year (and it's not too late to play.)
