Friday Five: Happy Lent!
Each year you give us this joyful season when we prepare to celebrate the Paschal Mystery with mind and heart renewed. You give us a spirit of loving reverence for you, our [Mother]/Father, and of willing service to our neighbor. As we recall the great events that gave us new life in Christ, you bring the image of your Son to perfection within us.... (First Preface for Lent, Roman Missal)
1. Did you celebrate Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday this year? Any memories of memorable celebrations past?
2. How about Ash Wednesday, past and/or present?
3. Does your denomination or congregation celebrate "this joyful season"? Any special emphases or practices to share?
4. Do you have a personal plan of give-ups, take-ons, special ministries, and/or a special focus for your own spiritual growth between now and Easter?
5. What is your dream for the image of Christ coming to perfection in you, the church, the world? How can we support you in prayer?
Bonus: Song, prayer, picture, etc. that sums up your feelings about this liturgical springtime.

Things are so bad in our diocese at the moment I can't even think of Lenten music or art. Please pray for the Diocese of CNY.

ReplyDeleteIt's almost noon, and finally I wrote about my intentions for Lent.
ReplyDeleteMy Lenten joys are here.
ReplyDeleteI didn't give up blogging here
ReplyDeleteI wrote some more about Lent right here. I'd also love to share the devotions I'm doing for Lent. I don't often have things other than sermons on my blog, so I know it's not that interesting to others. The plan is to write daily through Lent, though, so I'd welcome readers throughout the process. Yesterday's post asked me to write about a friend or family who died. I did some reflecting about my father who died coming up on five years ago.
ReplyDeleteI played here, in my again relaunched blog site.
ReplyDeleteI didn't do Friday Five... I was on the phone a bunch today. Between phone calls... I re-worked my sermon for Sunday. I have gotten 2 opinions from 2 people who love me very much. One loves it. One hates it. Now I wish I had just written it... put it in a folder... and let it be what it is on Sunday morning. BUT... since we have 2 votes at totally opposite ends of the spectrum... I need your comments. So... if you have time you want to spend reading a sermon... there's one here... waiting for your comments.
ReplyDeleteShe Rev - I'm doing the same thing over at my place, so if you'd like a 'companion' for the journey, come on over.
ReplyDeleteTonight I was going to post on a lecture I attended as my "Lenten Devotion" for the evening, but it got me so kerfuffled that I thought this excellent Friday Five would be much more beneficial. Thanks, Sophia, for asking these timely questions!
Here's my take on Lent 2010.
