RevGalBookPals: Monday Book Share

Last summer we moved away from a book discussion model for a few months to a book review feature, and as this summer approaches, I'm looking for volunteers to review books on the fourth Mondays of May, June, July and August.

And as I make my summer reading pile, I would also love to know what's on yours!

So, in the comments, please let me know if you might like to be a reviewer and what you have been reading recently that you would recommend to others.

Thanks!

  1. I'll do June, July or August, depending on the book.

  2. I know I'm still new to the ring, but I would love to do this. I post a short review of everything I read on my blog already.

I also have a recommendation. I just finished reading "This Odd and Wondrous Calling: The Public and Private Lives of Two Ministers" by Lillian Daniel and Martin Copenhaver. It was outstanding. Writing a review is on today's to-do list, so it should be on the blog later today.

  3. Into the Silent Land by Martin Laird

Practical, but deeply rooted in the Christian mystical traditions. Robin and I are hoping to have a back and forth conversation about this on our blogs with a guest visit by the author!

I have a summer of reading ahead of me, so can't wait to see what else people are reading!

  5. Oooohhhh!!! I am so excite about this. Now that I do NOT have a pile of required texts to read, I can just "read"! (if you KWIM!)

  6. I'd love to read and review. I just made a list of "book of the month"(s) for the church newsletter through December. One more thrown in there can't hurt. Can it?

In light(er) reading, I just finished Eve (Elliot)- a novel about Eve, Adam and their children (post-Eden). Very interesting, intriguing and thought-provoking.

  7. I'd be happy to take a month. Right now I'm reading An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination, Writing the Sacred, Experiencing the Psalms, Jesus was a Liberal, The Blue Parakeet, The Beach Street Knitting Society and Yarn Club, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. They're all good, but for very different reasons. I have all kinds of other cool stuff on my summer list.

  8. ooo, forthesomedaybook chose my suggestion! Odd and Wondrous Calling was really good (although I"m still arguing with Lillian Daniel in my head about being a Saturday sermon writer - grin!). I'm heading over to read your review now.

  9. Actually, we could have more than one a month in June, July and August, as it's a pretty quiet time in the ring. I will email those who expressed an interest and set up a schedule. Thanks!

  10. I'd like to play but haven't any books in mind particularly. If I think of any I'll let you know.

  11. I'd be happy to do July or August if you needed. I just read "God is Not One" by Stephen Prothero which was interesting and I'm looking at "the Mystery of the Child" by Martin Marty too. Or anything else too!
