3:1 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
3:2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth,
3:3 for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
3:4 When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.
Come Down, O Love Divine - Down Ampney (Ralph Vaughn Williams)
Come down, O love divine, seek Thou this soul of mine,
And visit it with Thine own ardor glowing.
O Comforter, draw near, within my heart appear,
And kindle it, Thy holy flame bestowing.
O let it freely burn, til earthly passions turn
To dust and ashes in its heat consuming;
And let Thy glorious light shine ever on my sight,
And clothe me round, the while my path illuming.
Let holy charity mine outward vesture be,
And lowliness become mine inner clothing;
True lowliness of heart, which takes the humbler part,
And o’er its own shortcomings weeps with loathing.
And so the yearning strong, with which the soul will long,
Shall far outpass the power of human telling;
For none can guess its grace, till he become the place
Wherein the Holy Spirit makes Her dwelling.
Come down, O love divine, seek Thou this soul of mine,

O Comforter, draw near, within my heart appear,

I mostly felt like I was horribly off this morning. The sermon was weak when I wrote it and weak when I delivered it. The copy machine was cranky and the stapler ran out of staples. The first-time visitors made inappropriate comments about my appearance and made it clear afterward that they won't be back.
ReplyDeleteBut there were some parts that worked, namely the ones I took care of earlier in the week. We used the Luke passage and the Colossians. The liturgy stuff I wrote on Wednesday morning actually matched well and every time we sang, I kept noticing bits that fed into the theme that probably no one but me would have realized was there otherwise, since my sermon was so inarticulate.
Our hymns were "God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending," "I Bind My Heart This Tide," "One Bread, One Body," and "They'll Know We Are Christians."
Comments about your appearance! What! How toadly of them!
ReplyDeleteGlad for the music. It has charms.
