A Tuesday Prayer

ah...
for early alarms that wake us to beautiful days,
we give You thanks.
for kind people in new situations,
we give You thanks.
for when our hearts our confused and broken and someone gets it,
we give You thanks.
for when we robotically take the bread, the wine,
and someone else believes for you
that it is heaven and hope,
we give You thanks.
for virtual and real colleagues,
oh my sweet Jesus,
we give you thanks.
for breath and sighs and sadness and loved ones, and HGTV to escape,
we give you thanks.

Oh God.
Life is a wonder,
a conundrum,
a  disappointment,
a joy
when one longs to follow and serve you...
when one knows that she isn't perfect or even the best,
but still....
Oh God.
Help.
and
Thank You.
Amen.

Tuesday Prayer

Sometimes,
in moments such as this one--
nothing special about it,
just another day,
surrounded by
ordinary life
of errands to do,
toilets to clean,
sleeping dogs at my side,
cloudy skies promising rain,
my soul
is at peace.

Thank You
for this moment.
Amen.

a tuesday prayer for complicated and simple days...

Ah, God,
it has been such a complicated and simple time
these days...
the love of dear ones
holding tight,
the simple joy
of laughter,
tears,
quiet.
rest.
gratefulness for the single, crystal clear moments.

and then,
oh,
the confusion
of anxiety,
of fractured hearts,
of missed opportunities
of missed-understandings.

wherever
the complicated and simple days
find us,
whether at work or home or play
or deep within our souls,

oh dear God,
have mercy.
oh dear God,
thank you.
oh dear God,
thank God
that you are God and we are not.
amen.

A Tuesday Prayer

Ah, God,
my mind is in a tumble this morning.
Scattered, circle thoughts jumping hoops in my heart and soul,
so many prayers, so little focus, and yet...
these snips of thoughts
are the joys and concerns
of
the
way my heart meditates this morning.

For those taking Great Leaps of Faith and Courage,
prayers for added measures of each.

For those facing Exasperating Interactions,
prayers for calm. And patience.

For those in Despair,
prayers for a Touch of Grace,
and an arm of love to hold them.

For the Earth.
Our dear, dear Mother Earth.
My God-dess.
Change all of our hearts and initiative quickly.
Quicken our resolve,
Strengthen our Voice,
forgive our dishonor of this Home we take for granted.

Help us to breathe today.
To honor the snippets of our thoughts by releasing them to You,
in simple prayers.
Help us to be Grace,
and to see You
in this gift of  living today.

Amen.

a tuesday prayer...

Sitting in this crowd of strangers,
in this airport waiting area
I am at wonder
how fearful and wonder-ful
each human life must be.

I wonder at the youngish business woman clutching her Starbucks,
frantically clacking at her laptop,
getting ready, I imagine, for an Important Meeting at the other side of her trip.

Then, there is  the elderly couple
over there,
enjoying their dunkin' coffee and chocolate iced donuts,
without talking,
and yet the way their bodies interact,
leaning over one another,  hands gathering trash,
like a duet,
the conversation is old and deep and complicated,
and full.

In this bustle of people,
oh, My God, so many lives,
each fraught with joy and despair,
discomfort, love, confidence,
hope, dreams, denial,
courage,
boredom,
worry, willfulness, strength...

each carrying within
a Spark of You.

my breath clutches,
and my eyes sting with a spring of emotion,
My God.  So much Divine in this space,
it almost hurts to think of the Power and Love
contained in this space.
My God, so much of You,
So much of You.

You.
Fearful, and wonderful.
Amen.

a Tuesday prayer

Sometimes, God....
life piles up
and the stacks become a bit overwhelming.
Sometimes, God,
When I feel like I am listening to you and your nudging,
life gets hard,
and I get confused and hurt,
knowing better, but still I do.
In the piles and the stacks of living (or at least trying to) faithfully,
help me,
help me remember
that I am Beloved,
and You will hold me,
and will never let me go.
Amen.

Tuesday Prayer of Thanksgiving

Gracious God, today we give thanks!

We give thanks for the people in our lives:
for the trailblazers who made the way as women in ministry,
and for the women who never knew there was a reason not to serve the church,
and for those who are just realizing their calls now;

for wise elders who share their stories with the young,
and for young people who listen with deep interest to tales of long-ago,
and for faith communities that bring many generations into relationship;

for spouses and partners and friends who remind us we are loved with
a comforting touch,
or a knowing glance,
or a shared tear,
or a laugh so loud people look to see what is so funny.

We give thanks for the ways we can remain connected even at a distance:
a thoughtful card,
or a well-timed email,
or a much-needed text,
or a phone call that is a sound for aching ears,
or a Facetime that is a sight for sore eyes,
or a prayer that touches us even when we don't know it's being prayed.

We thank you for the RevGalBlogPals community, lived out:
on this blog,
on Facebook,
on Twitter,
on chat,
via email,
on the phone,
and face to face.

Bless us and all the connections we will make this day and every day. Amen.

(Offered in honor of St. Casserole, around whose blog post this community constellated in 2005. She celebrates her 35th Ordination Anniversary today.)

Tuesday Prayer: God has your back.

...I will go before you
and level the mountains,
I will break in pieces the doors of bronze
and cut through the bars of iron,
I will give you the treasures of darkness
and riches hidden in secret places,
so that you may know it is I,
the Lord,
the One who calls you by your name.
Isaiah 45: 2-3.

Amen.

a Tuesday prayer...

...for this real-ness of life,
I give thanks.

...for the torti cat watching me pray this prayer, with half open eyes, purring loudly, waiting for me to finish so that she might jump on my lap,
I give thanks.

...for the delicious dinner out last evening, complete with coconut tofu sticks and fig and gorgonzola pizza and vegan shepherd's pie, with good wine, and amazing, amazing women who make Sunday School happen at my church,
I give thanks, and PRAISE, and awe.

...for the tiny two and half year old child who touched my glittery scarf two nights ago and said, "I loooove your scarf" and then took off his sandals to run barefoot through the room,
I give thanks, and smile.

...for the 15 and a half year old blind, deaf, loud, incontinent poodle snoring at my feet,
I give thanks, (and pray for patience)--

Sometimes, I think, I need Your presence.
And then I remember,
in the real-ness of life,
you are Everpresent.

Sometimes, I wonder what the heck it is I am doing here, where the heck am I going,
and then
You remind me,
to Be All Here.
In the real-ness of life.
and,
I give thanks...
and remember to consider the lilies.

Amen.

Tuesday Prayer

Today,
I pray for the strangers that cross my path,
that even though I might not have any interaction with them,
may they be blessed.

Bless the drivers on the road with me.
Bless the people working in all of the businesses I pass on my way to the office.
Bless the dog walkers in the morning, on the sidewalks that I fly by.
Bless the children in the schoolbuses that roll down the street.
Bless the people in the houses I walk by...

I pray for blessing.
Blessing and peace for all.

Amen.
