RevGal Friday Five: So Long, Farewell

On Sunday, my husband leaves for a two-month job out of state. In honor of his departure, I give you the "So Long, Farewell" Friday Five.

1. How do you say goodbye to someone you will see again soon?

2. What is your favorite foreign word for "goodbye?"

3. Have you ever planned a special farewell for someone, or had one planned for you?

4. What is the hardest goodbye you have had to say?

5. What is the most romantic goodbye you have seen in a movie?

And a Bonus question for Musical Theatre geeks: Which Von Trapp child would you like to be in "So Long, Farewell?"

Please leave a comment here if you play on your blog!

  1. I did the meme! I hope PureLuck's time away from home passes quickly.
I didn't do the Sound of Music part because I haven't had enough coffee...

  2. I want to be the little girl....is it Gretl? because she doesn't even have to walk up the stairs at the end.

  4. Officially I am not allowed to play since I still have one more devotional to go.

However, I once read a story about someone always saying, "See you later." - Even when someone is dying because certainly that is the hope and our belief.

    So, see you later.

  5. I'm in... not very well. Take care of yourself, songbird, and may the time pass quickly.

  6. Huh, I had predicted a Friday Five based on Valentine's Day, or the Olympics.

At any rate, I did it and it was fun!

  7. My dad was my best friend for most of my life.

Saying goodbye to him was the most painful goodbye I've had so far.

He spent a couple of months here in Finland with us in 1997 over the summer. He was already ill but we thought we'd meet again. At least I did, though we knew he was dying.

That goodbye was the hardest thing I've done - not at the airport - but at home before I took him to the aiport.

We never met again. He had liver cancer and was only 67. He died on August 4th, same summer as Princess Diana and Mother Theresa.

My dad died that October. It was a sad year.
RM, we'll play some sort of Valentine's game on Tuesday, and you can check back in for an Olympics Friday Five next week!!

  9. I know many RGBPs have followed Annika's story in falling down is also a gift (sorry I don't know how to do that linky thingy). Annika is 5 and it appears that her 2nd liver transplant is failing. Annika's family has blown through their annual insurance limit in one month. If you might be interested in helping Annika's family raise money for her possible retransplant and ongoing expenses, please check out Phantom Scribbler's page where we're brainstorming or Annika's page (both are linked to mine--again sorry about not having that html skill book done yet.) I know it isn't a goodbye story, and really I hope it will never be a goodbye story, but wanted to spread the word. I apologize for the interruption.

  10. No need to apologize, PPB. In reading the comments on both blogs, there are many good suggestions already.

  11. I would like to play but Friday is long gone before I get to see it. Wrong side of the pond I guess!!

  12. scog blog, I try to post first thing on Friday morning, East Coast USA time. I realize that's later in the day for RGBPs in Europe and the UK. Anyway, don't let coming late stop you from playing. Many people don't get to it until Saturday! (And I do believe we are separated by hours, not days.)
