RevGal Friday Five: Avoidance

This weekend I must do the dreaded college
FINANCIAL AID
paperwork for my oldest. Even though it is the third time around, I am no better at it than I was the first. I suspect I will be practicing avoidance and getting it done at the last.possible.moment.

Thus our Friday Five: name five things you do when you are trying to avoid doing what you really need to do.

As always, let us know in the comments here if you play on your blog. Readers, think about going to visit someone new today, and leaving them a comment! (That's one great way to avoid what you ought to be doing...)

  1. Avoidance behaviors! One of my favorite topics! I'll be in, in a bit.

  2. OK, I played. The only thing I don't procrastinate on is procrastinating.

  5. I think some of you are going about this the wrong way. First you need to do the five things, then write about them...later...

  6. Hee, hee, Songbird!

I am in. And I am sadly exposed.

"Hello, my name is Ginger and I am an Internet Addict."

  7. Oh yes I hate those forms too, my daughter Emma is just coming to the end of her final year then we get a years break from the dreaded forms before we have to start producing them in duplicate for the twins...that and the UK governmennt have made the whole system a lot more difficult!!!
    Enough said I am playing.

  8. If I
    start writing now, when I'm
    not really rested, it could
    upset my thinking, which is
not good at all. I'll get a
    fresh start tomorrow, and it's
not due til Wednesday, so I'll
    have all of Tuesday, unless
    something should happen. Why does
    this always happen? I should
    be outside playing, getting
fresh air and sunshine. I work
    best under pressure, and there'll
be lots of pressure, if I
    wait til tomorrow, I should
start writing now. But if I
    start writing now, when I'm
    not really rested, it could
    upset my thinking, which is
    not good at all.

From "The Book Report," in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, this procrastinator's favorite song.

  10. laughing at the comments so far

    I postpone
    a) forms of all kinds
    b) ironing
    and c) making certain phonecalls

    how?

    blog
    study
    write
    nap
    make food
    read
    go out with the dog
    'fiddle' in the garden
    change the bed linen (yeah!)
    and
    FRET

Usually the forms take next to no-time, and I've spent days fretting about them instead of just 'doing it'
    grrr
You'd think I'd learn but no

so heaps of sympathies Songbird :)

  11. I'm the avoidance queen. I've played.

  12. Okay, I played, too, but only after redoing my blog one more time.

  13. Me too! Because, I should be outlining my staffing needs for VBS :)

  14. I did it.

I was really worried when I saw the topic that you were going to ask me to reveal what I am procrastinating on!

Hmm, maybe I need to do that?

  15. Oooh, Lorna, I just HATE returning phone calls. Hate it! But I love to fill out forms! (though not the FAFSA - US financial aid form!) But the kind at Dr. office....a sense of accomplishment.

I really, really love discrete tasks that I can get finished with and not have to worry about anymore.

I am worst about procrastinating on BIG things that take a long time to do. I might not do it perfectly, so I'd better not start it, right?

Right? Can I get a witness?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I will be your witness Mary Beth!

I did the meme - of COURSE I did the meme. You can find it at: preacher, blogger or procrastinator.

  17. I did this as a form of procrastination. I really need to go pick up the kids, but I'm still at my desk posting to my blog.

  18. There is something over at my place that will help you kill time instead of saving the world or cooking supper or something.

  19. After working so hard to be good all the time, it is thrilling to bring out the worst in people!!!

  20. I'm in! Plus drop by to read about my latest cause of mommy celebration.

  21. I'm a little too spent to play this week. Stop by my place to see why.

  22. Ummm ...... This sounds like a good idea .... maybe I'll .... oh, wait, look over there!

I'll be in, if I can sit my butt down long enough to! :-)

  23. Can I add further procrastination fuel, by asking for peoples to head over to offer inspiration for DarlingDaughter's imminent teaching career...Word games, songs, any ideas hugely welcome.
While you're over this side of the Pond, you could also tell me how you see yourself as a preacher...I'd love to know. Last minute, clearly....but then, aren't we all??

  24. I played at it, but procrastinated doing it while procrastinated doing other things, but then you know how that is, it sure seems like there are a lot of procrastinators among our group. How did we get through seminary? How do we get our sermons done? The conference paperwork done, everytime it rolls around?

  25. A great, last, desperate burst of energy?
