Get Yourself Connected

One of the recurring themes in the Friday Five this week was that many of us hope to meet up with other revgals and blogpals. I, for one, was delighted to find a few of us in my own Northern Virginia backyard--and was stunned at just how close a couple of them are.

Happily, there is a tool on the web that can help us find our fellow neighbor ringmates. Frappr! It's built off of Google Maps, and allows you to put a thumbtack on your location for all to see (and you can be as general or as specific as you like, post a picture if you want, and use your real name or your online handle).

Just click this sticker to view our map:
Check out our Frappr!

If you have any problems with it, leave a comment for me here or at this post in my journal.

  1. Thanks, Gallycat!
I'll be putting the sticker in the sidebar, too, friends, so you will still be able to find it after this post travels down the page.

  2. I'm on!

I may appear twice--at one point in my clicking about the site, I think I put another pin in...

  3. Sally has managed to transport herself across the Atlantic somehow!

  4. I'm not sure how I feel about putting up a map to me, even though I'm open about where I live. But... Zinnhead and I are seminary classmates, and Possible Water and I have gotten to be friends this summer.

Community is a good thing. :-)

  5. Songbird, Frappr put her in the wrong place and she left a note for me. I *think* I sort of fixed it--and left her a note back on how to get Frappr to cooperate. Hopefully, it will. :D

  6. I'm not surprised about Sally. (Frappr isn't very Europe friendly! but I'm trying again!)

  7. This is neat. Cool beans. There are three of us within spittin' distance. I feel a lunch coming up....

(OK, word verification is illwax = I'll wax. Oh no I won't!)

  8. PS it won't accept me. Anyway I'm in Finland. In Turku. It's on the south west coast Frappr tried to put me in SanFrancisco which actually wouldn't be so bad (grin)

feel free to add me gallycat - if you want to that is :)

  9. I'm on there... though it says London and I'm not actually in London, but it wouldn't take 'Hertfordshire' or 'near London'!!

  10. Arrived safely...Not entirely sure about the marker, but it's on the right landmass at least. Thanks for sorting this, galleycat :-)

  12. I'm on! Thanks for doing this, Gallycat! And, just as an aside, I just posted my Friday Five here.

  13. Fun! My new picture is on there twice though... is this something only Gallycat can fix?

  14. Great idea! I'm on. We who are in the greater DC metro area should definitely try to do a meet-up. I'm moving to Alexandria this week, but once we get the worst of it over, I'm up for it.

  15. Thanks, Gallycat ... what a great idea. I'm on there now too. I agree with mibi52, it would be fun to plan a meetup for all of us in the DC area. BUT ... I'm leaving next week for two + weeks away. Can we make it for sometime in September?? I'm selfish ;-)

  16. I don't know when I'll get around to getting my mark on here, but until then: Hey Reverend Mommy - I'm only a few hours away from you. I'm game for driving in for a lunch sometime!

  17. Lorna: I sent you email.
Chelley: I can correct your pin if you want. Just let me know.
DCers: We are definitely going to have to have a meetup. It's just a matter of where and when. (I have shawl ministry tomorrow, a meeting on setting up a parish blog on Wednesday, and this weekend i'm parent-sitting...)

  19. I'm glad we finally did this!

What about a DC meet-up around Thanksgiving, when I'm "home" for a few days? Not that I'm being selfish, but if you find me on the map, I'm even in Nowheresville in RevGalLand. Sniff!

  20. It hides me behind Quotidian Grace. Hmmm, there's something metaphorical about that.

  21. I'd like to add myself, but do you need to log into Frappr to do that?

  22. me too ... behind jody. But Susan, when you zoom in ... you can see us both! I love this, it's so cool.

  23. Checking back in after a few days...and the little stream of photos scrolling by brought tears to my eyes! How fantastic it is to see y'all all together. I know we don't have a photo for everyone, but even the little logos (like QG's bluebonnets, and the labyrinth, and Rainbow Pastor's cross & rainbow...) are wonderful. "There go my blogfriends! Streaming by!"

  24. I feel so dumb, I can't get a pin to go in the map! I finally got a Frappr account and am logged in, but I don't know how to show myself on the map. Can anybody help me?

  25. Ooh! Never mind, I got it to work!
