Sunday Prayer

*Don't forget to nominate yourself or someone else for the RevGal Wednesday Festival. This week's theme is Life and All That. Send in or nominate stories about friends, family, crises, or joys, and all that.

Ever-present and ever-loving God, we know that you have promised to be with all of us through life's joys and struggles. I give you thanks and stand in awe at your power and grace. You, who knit me together in my mother's womb, will stay with me through this life and into the Great Somewhere Else when this life is done. Such a wonder as this can overwhelm me at times, but tonight it brings comfort.

Loving God, because I am so aware of your presence with me, I can with confidence know that you are also with those I know to be in need of your special healing presence tonight. I know that you will stay close to my friends who are walking the path of grief this weekend and are feeling their loss so deeply. I know you will be with all who are ill, or fearful or lonely or hungry or sad.

I know that in the midst of the chaos of bombs and politics, you are there, crying with the wounded, weeping with families in bomb shelters who do not know if their loved ones will return to them. You are there, God, with hungry mothers whose breasts can no longer nourish their babies. You cry their tears and hear their prayers, God, and so, with these and all the world's hurting people, I cry out "Help."

Bring strength, courage, and faith to us all. This is our prayer, that by your grace your people will work together to create your realm on earth as you would have it - a place of peace, justice and love. Amen.

usually I pray from my heart, but I cant think of better words than these today, so if it's ok they'll be included in the service at a little suburban UCC (that's united church of CHRIST for you canadians - grin) church here in seattle.
