Sunday Afternoon Music Video: Mahalia Jackson

Pastor Joelle suggested a Mahalia Jackson feature, and I'm so happy to oblige!

Here is "His Eye is On the Sparrow:"

"Amazing Grace:"

and "Nearer, My God to Thee:"

What did you sing in worship today? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Thank you! Mahalia Jackson is no doubt the greatest Gospel singer ever. She sang just before Martin Luther King jr.'s "I Have Dream" speech and at his request, sang "Precious Lord" at his funeral.

  2. Whoops, got the videos messed up in my advance post but I think it's ok now!

  3. We sang some of my favorite HW music today! In addition to the standard "All glory, laud and honor" that accompanies the procession into the church, we also sang Bach's "O sacred head sore wounded," and "My song is love unknown." At communion we sang "Were you there?" which I typically think of as a GF hymn, but it works for today as well. A great music day. Plus, we had some visitors, so the "house" felt fuller than usual.

    Seder meal tonight!

  4. we had Love Unknown during communion, which was excellent. We also sang Hosanna Loud Hosanna and Wondrous Love...and a hymn from the Church of Scotland hymnal called "Ride On, Ride On" but isn't the usual ride on ride on. it's awesome.

  5. We had "All glory, laud, and honour," "Ride on, ride on in majesty," "My song is love unknown," and finally "There is a green hill far away".
And the choir, with three visiting soloists, sang the Allegri "Miserere" as a communion anthem. People cried. It was GREAT.
