Sunday Prayer

Holy and Wondrous Creator, you know my thoughts before I do, and you alone can truly comprehend the intricate workings of the human heart. Only you can know with certainty which parts of the worship will make me a bit anxious and which will make my spirit soar. Surprise me, God! Enliven my spirit and grant me the unpredictable gust that sweeps in with the Holy Spirit and nudges the heart to new faith.

Tonight as I ponder tomorrow morning's worship, I am aware and thankful for all of the other people I know who are doing the same kind of early preparation. Lay and clergy alike are tonight opening the doors of their hearts in anticipation of hearing a word that will inspire, or speaking a word that will comfort, or receiving the silent and powerful gift of your Presence.

It is all so good, God. May I be fully present to every moment of our worship, and alive to the blessings you bring, in Jesus' name. Amen.

  4. It's obvious to me that, in addition to this prayer applying to all of us, God answered it in a powerful way for me.
