Today begins the liturgical season of Lent, a time of self-examination, penitence, and prayer. Please feel free to share about your observations of the day and the season in the comments.
I found myself quite taken by Abby of the Arts' reflections on Ash Wednesday; and one of the things I would like to do this year is move away from a "penal" Lent -- the spiritual equivalent of standing at a blackboard writing "I will not ____________" 500 times -- and entering into that whole-hearted honesty and openness to transformation that she speaks about on her blog.
You can read a little more here, but essentially I will be going through Julia Cameron's book The Artist's Way and doing the morning pages as a means of prayer/meditation/clearing the gunk out of my head.
I posted about Lenten disciplines earlier this week: http://nachfolge.blogspot.com/2007/02/lenten-discipline.html
ReplyDeleteA blessed Ash Wednesday to you all.
Are you a take something on or give something up for Lent kinda person? I'd love to hear from you. Blessings everyone.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the daily office of Morning Prayer (Episcopal), a Lenten discipline I began last year. You may find it here
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wanted to share that my church has a really nice Virtual Stations of the Cross site here, and you are very welcome to visit.
A blessed and holy Lent to all...
Rats, my Daily Office link is wonky. It's at www.missionstclare.com

One of my good friends, Rev. William Chaney and I have edited a Lenten Devotional book. If you want to check it out, it's here.
ReplyDeleteI've posted my thoughts on Lent on my blog. Just click on my name to get there.

I'm meditating twenty minutes a day.
ReplyDeleteIt was so good to read what people are doing for Lent this evening.
ReplyDeleteI'm praying my extremely-inclusive Office and making time for fun reading as well. More on my Ash Wednesday post here.
I started Lent with a wonderful service in Ely Cathedral, you can read about it here
ReplyDeleteMy devotional book this year is Blessed is she; living Lent with Mray
Tried to post comment yesterday, but Blogger was testy at the time.
ReplyDeleteI have two posts: Bearing the Cross and Ash Wednesday
I posted an Ash-y editation last night. CLick my name to go to my blog
ReplyDeleteOk that should be a meditation, not editation.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what an editation would be though??????
Would it be making changes (i.e. editing) to a meditation and showing them through strikethroughs, etc.?
