Sunday Video: Plainchant

Last night we had our first Sung Compline at my church. A lovely gift and a prayerful way to close the day, with plainchant in our ears.

This morning we sang many of my favorites, including "When Morning Gilds the Skies," and "Alleluia, Sing to Jesus."

What have you been singing, listening to, praying today and as you prepare for Lent (if you will be observing Lent)?

  1. I'm still in denial that Lent is beginning this week. I haven't picked my fast/commitment/whatever you want to call it. I need to see what I feel led to take on.

This morning for T-fig Sunday we sang "O Splendor of God's Glory Bright". I'm not as proficient as some of you at finding videos or recordings on-line. The tune was on You Tube, but the quality stunk. It's a favorite of mine. We also sang "Take Thou our Minds, Dear Lord." I guess that one sort of pointed us toward Lent more than the other. That's sort of why I put it at the end. A sending off into the season with something that sort of set the tone for being consecrated for the observance.

    If that makes sense.

I'm preaching the lectionary Psalms through the Lenten season, so I bet we will be singing several different settings of Psalms throughout the season. The over-arching theme will be about using the ancient prayers/songs of the psalms to guide our prayers during Lent.

  2. I am not doing Lent other than in my own devotions.

    BUT
I have been re-listening to Christmas music. :)

Last night we heard an honors gala performance (The Harpist was a featured soloist) and the senior band played an instrumental arrangment of "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten Lauridsen.

    It was lovely.

The mystery continues... from Bethlehem to the cross.
